WHEN THE SUN TRIES TO GO ON

Los Angeles: Black Sparrow Press, 1969. First Edition. Item #8080

Limited Issue, one of 200 copies (this one bound without the colophon, and therefore unnumbered and unsigned – an overrun from the holdings of the bindery). Octavo (19.75cm); coarse yellow cloth, with title label mounted to spine, and three-dimensional pictorial cardboard only mounted to front cover; publisher's original acetate dustjacket; [ii],[4],5-113,[5]pp; illustrated by Larry Rivers. Faint foxing to text edges, internally a bit musty from long storage; Near Fine in a lightly rubbed and cloudy dustjacket.

A collaborative work by two prominent New York School figures, which they dedicated to the late Frank O'Hara. One of the most attractive productions of the press. Provenance: from the collection of Earle and Larry Gray (of the Earle Gray Bookbinding Company), who bound most of the Black Sparrow Press titles produced between 1967-2001, as well as works by Capricorn, Turtle Island, and various other small presses. Morrow & Cooney 53b.

Price: $200.00
