CONFESSIONS OF A MAN INSANE ENOUGH TO LIVE WITH BEASTS - AUTHOR'S EDITION, ONE OF 3 COPIES
Bensenville, IL: Mimeo Press, 1965. First Edition. Item #7967
First Printing, limited to no more than 500 copies. This copy is part of a small private "Author's Edition" – one of 3 copies, each with an original signed typescript poem tipped-in; this is copy no.1, with the poem "raw" tipped-in between the front wrapper and title page. Slim octavo (21.5cm); variously-colored mimeographed sheets, stapled into pink and black pictorial card wrappers; [52]pp. Some toning and hand-soil along the spine-fold, light dust-soil and a small stain to front wrapper; contents clean; Very Good.
This "long short story" marks an important debut, as it introduced readers to Bukowski's alter-ego and recurring character Henry Chinaski. Among the tiniest limitations of any of the author's books. The poem "raw" would not see publication in Bukowski's lifetime; it was finally included in his posthumous collection Open All Night (2000). Krumhansl 17; Debritto A16.
