Los Angeles: Laugh Literary, 1969-1971. First Editions. Item #7937

Three slim octavo issues (21.5cm); pictorial card wrappers, stapled; 32pp per issue; illus. Issue no.1 shows some dust-soil and a few tiny stains to wrappers; contents clean; Very Good+. Issue no.2 shows a touch of oxidation to staples, with no.3 showing a hint of sunning to spine and some trivial dustiness; Near Fine.

Complete run of this short-lived little magazine dedicated to poetry, prose, and artwork, intended as Bukowski's alternative to the Black Mountain Review. He despised the Black Mountain School, going so far as to reproduce the following manifesto on the cover of Issue No.1: "In Disgust with Poetry Chicago, with the dull dumpling pattycake safe Creeley's, Olsons, Dickeys, Merwins, Nemerovs and Merediths – This is Issue # one volume one of Laugh Literary and Man the Humping Guns." Bukowski and co-editor Neeli Cherkovski were frequent contributors, and the issues includes works by Jerome Rothenberg, T.L. Kryss, William Wantling, Steve Richmond, Don Cauble, Douglas Blazek, Jack Micheline, Terry Stokes, Gerda Penfold, Harold Norse, Janet Fox, and others. Dorbin C438-439, E67.
