THE WORMWOOD REVIEW - NOS.81 & 82 (VOL.21, NOS.1-2) - INSCRIBED TO JOHN MARTIN
Stockton, CA: The Wormwood Review Press, 1981. First Edition. Item #7932
Deluxe Issue, one of 50 numbered copies signed by the author, this being copy no.3. Slim octavo (21.25cm); pictorial card wrappers, stapled; 48pp; illus. This copy bears a full-page inscription on the verso of the front wrapper to John Martin, Bukowski's primary publisher at Black Sparrow Press: "For Big John Martin / Who I know will be big enough to know that every day it begins all over again no matter what preceded. (It). / And that nothing is serious enough to take serious / A good shit is a good start / After that, maybe the luck and the laughter / Yr boy / Henry Charles Bukowski Jr." Hint of sunning to spine, faint, tiny stain to lower left corner of front wrapper, with a tiny stain to inner rear wrapper and the opposing margin; Near Fine.
Special issue of WR, containing a 20pp section printed on orange stock dedicated to Bukowski's work - Charles Bukowski's Good-By To Hollywood (Plus Four Drawings). With additional contributions by Phil Weidman, Lyn Lifshin, Steve Richmond, Gerald Locklin, Guy Cochrane, and others. A superb association copy, obviously, but it's worth noting that of the thousands of signed Bukowski items that have passed through our hands, we've seen fewer than a handful where he's signed his full name. Debritto B1139.
