FLYER: CORMAC MCCARTHY - THE FIRST CONFERENCE, OCTOBER 15-17, 1993
Louisville, KY: Bellarmine College Department of English, 1993. First Edition. Promotional flyer for a historic event – the first Cormac McCarthy conference, held October 15-17, 1993. "McCarthy scholarship began in the 1980s but escalated in earnest in the 1990s with the foundation of the Cormac McCarthy Society at the first Cormac McCarthy Conference at Bellarmine College in 1993. Book-length studies, many of which began as dissertations, immediately became highly specialized and focused" (Frye, Steven. "Cormac McCarthy." Oxford Bibliographies, 22 October, 2022). Perhaps the best known work to emerge from the conference was Notes on Blood Meridian by John Emil Sepich, who was both a speaker and moderator at the conference. An attractive ephemeral item, suitable for framing. Item #7230
Original double-sided mailing flyer, with text and photographic portrait of McCarthy offset printed in reddish-brown on light grey stock, measuring 21.75cm x 28cm (8.5" x 11"). Two old horizontal folds smoothed-out, with two tiny pinholes at upper and lower margins; an unfranked, Near Fine example.
