The first complete edition of Olson's Maximus Poems, revised and expanded from portions which were first published in Stuttgart by Jonathan Williams between 1953-56. A superb association copy, inscribed to poet and artist Bobbie Louise Hawkins (Creeley) at the legendary Vancouver Poetry Conference, held July 26 - August 16, 1963. At the time, Hawkins had been in a common law marriage for several years with Black Mountain poetry Robert Creeley, who was also in attendance at the conference with Olson, Allen Ginsberg, Philip Whalen, Warren Tallman, and many others. An uncommonly close inscription tied to one of the major literary events of the 1960s. Item #7170

Octavo (22.75cm); original pictorial card wrappers; [vi],160,[2]pp. Inscribed by Olson on the preliminary leaf to Bobbie Creeley (1930-2018): "Bobbie / Here when we found out two different things which we now discover are very connected together / Vancouver, 19 Sixty Three / Charles." Modest wear, gentle sunning to spine and wrapper extremities, faint sticker shadow to lower front wrapper, with a few small spots of soil to covers, and a few brief passages marked on pp.28-29, 129; Very Good or better.
