Quarto (28.5cm); black cloth, with titles stamped in white on spine; dustjacket; 17,[1]pp, with 64 unpaginated leaves and 1 blank; photographs are numbered 1-83 and interleaved with text; illus. Signed by Bowles on the title page. Lower left corner of rear board gently tapped (though still sharp), else Near Fine in a Near Fine dustjacket, unclipped (priced $10), with light wear to extremities, a few tiny tears, and some laminate lift along the joints.
Laid into this copy is an original photograph by Haeberlin, measuring 21.5cm x 28cm (8.5" x 11"), reprinted on p.77 and captioned "Market place of the Kirdis" in text. Holograph notation in pencil on verso, in an undetermined (but contemporary) hand: "Photo by Peter W. Haeberlin / OSU 5c / Inserted in Nelson Algren's copy of Yallah / reprinted on p.77 / Text by Bowles." Very Good, with light surface wear and handling, edges irregularly cut, with a few tiny edge tears and faint creases, and some adhesive residue on verso. We find neither a bookplate nor Algren's ownership signature in the book, though the photo was found precisely where the caption said it would be.
