Description

Reprint. Fine in a Near Fine dustjacket. This volume was produced prior to the wartime restrictions on paper and related materials, a stunning example with a vibrant red topstain. The jacket reproduces the original artwork and is remarkably well-preserved, the only flaws being a single tear to the upper edge of the front panel, a brief horizontal rubbed spot to the same, and some minute chipping to the corner tips. One of the great rarities in 20th century mystery fiction, a stopper for most Woolrich collectors, and a title which rarely shows up in an original jacket. Quite an attractive copy of Woolrich's first mystery, the first in his series of 'Black' books, and basis for the 1968 film directed by François Truffaut, starring Jeanne Moreau.
