First Printing. Octavo (19.25cm); red cloth, with titling and decorative elements stamped in black on spine and front cover; decorative endpapers; dustjacket; [vi],296,[2]pp. Contemporary owners name (F. Skiddy von Stade, Jr.) to front endpaper, with some faint foxing to text edges and terminal leaves; Near Fine. Dustjacket is edgeworn and slightly dusty, with a vertical fold along the left edge of the spine panel, shallow losses to corner tips and upper left corner of crown, and numerous short tears; two longer tears at crown, with brief evidence of mending on verso at an early date; a substantially complete, Very Good example.

Presentable copy of Brand's much-loved western novel, and one of the defining titles of the genre. Basis for three notable film adaptations: Benjamin Stoloff's 1932 version, starring Tom Mix and Zazu Pitts, George Marshall's 1954 film with Audie Murphy and Mari Blanchard, and Marshall's iconic 1939 version, starring Jimmy Stewart and Marlene Dietrich - the latter selected by the Library of Congress for inclusion in the National Film Registry in 1996. Scarce in dustjacket, and a stopper for Brand collectors.
