Comments

The Delaware author's first novel, a sweeping novel tracing the rise and fall of several generations of a Dunkard family, which was published with the assistance of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Biggs and Fitzgerald were roommates during their years at Princeton University; the two often put out the college literary magazine by themselves, and the men maintained a friendship throughout their lives. Biggs was one of 30 or so mourners at Fitzgerald's funeral, and acted as guardian and executor of his daughter Scottie's estate, negotiating a contract to screen rights to The Great Gatsby for her. Uncommon; we find no copies for sale in the trade (Dec.2017), with fewer than two dozen copies held in OCLC.
