Octavo (18.75cm); printed wrappers; original glassine overlay; 226,[6]pp. With a presentation inscription from the translator (in ink) on the front endpaper: "A M. Louis Daniel Hirsch / en témoignage et sympathie / Ott de Weymer." Mild toning to spine and front wrapper extremities, with small, faint stain to upper margin of front wrapper; clean throughout, with pages unopened; Near Fine, in a lightly toned and edgeworn glassine.


The first of Hemingway's books published in French, collecting the title story and five others: "Mon vieux," " L'Invincible," "Le Champion," "Le village indien," and "Les Tueurs." A distinguished copy, inscribed by the translator to Louis Daniel Hirsch, author and Director of Sales at Gallimard between 1922-1974.
