Comments

Reissue of Doctorow's first novel originally published in 1960 by Simon & Schuster, the basis for Burt Kennedy's 1967 western film, starring Henry Fonda, Janice Rule, Warren Oates, and Aldo Ray. Doctorow, Vonnegut, and their families were friends and members of the elite coterie of writers who resided in Sag Harbor; Krementz, a highly-regarded photographer, took the portrait of Doctorow on the rear panel. A warmly-inscribed copy, connecting two titans of 20th century American letters.
