Coe, an attorney by trade, would go on to write 11 more crime novels between 1928-1952. Basis for the 1928 American silent film of the same name, directed by Raoul Walsh and starring Don Terry, Anders Randolph, Carole Lombard, and June Collyer. Octavo (19.5cm); black cloth, with titles stamped in red on spine and front cover; red topstain; dustjacket; [6], 272, [2]pp. Forward lean, a bit of softening to spine ends, with fading to topstain and mild offset to endpapers; Very Good, sound copy. Dustjacket is price-clipped, shelfworn, dusty, and spine-sunned, with small losses to corners and spine ends, several short tears, and evidence of a dozen (unnecessary) cello-tape mends skillfully removed from verso; Good to Very Good.
