Comments

Photoplay edition for the seminal pre-code gangster movie set in Chicago, and the vehicle which catapulted James Cagney to stardom. Cagney's character was based on real-life Chicago gangster Earle "Hymie" Weiss and bootlegger Charles "Deanie" O'Banion. The screenplay, based on Glasmon and Bright's novel 'Beer and Blood,' received the film's only Academy Award nomination. An important film source title, and quite scarce in dustjacket. Hubin, p.170.
