Octavo; illustrated wrappers; 236pp, . Inscribed both authors to Jean Beyt on the front endpaper: "ŗ Monsieur Jean Beyt / Bien sympathetiquement / Pierre Boileau," below which Narcejac has added his signature. Brief numerical notation to front endpaper, covers lightly worn and soiled overall, mild tanning to text edges, with a few unobtrusive creases and a neat 3/4" split at base of front joint; binding sound - Very Good.
The second novel by the by the celebrated French crime fiction duo. The novel centers around an inventor who, while determined to develop the perfect lightbulb, is blinded during a freak lab accident and suffers a nervous breakdown. Though he is convinced he is going mad, it soon becomes apparent that it is a deliberate attempt by his wife, partner, and brother. Basis for the 1960 British thriller directed by David Eady, and starring John Gregson, Mai Zetterling, and John Ireland. Uncommon in the first edition, and the only copy of this title we have seen or handled signed by the authors.
