Original typed letter from Charles Bukowski to John Bryan, signed by Bukowski in black ink. Single sheet of white 8.5 x 11" stock; two old, faint folds, with a few tiny soil spots and light edge wear; Very Good+.
Previously unpublished letter from Bukowski to publisher, journalist, and newspaper editor John Bryan, who for many years published Bukowski's 'Notes of a Dirty Old Man' column in the pages of OPEN CITY. A particularly raunchy letter, detailing both Bukowski's lady troubles, as well as his general sentiments toward women: "yes, here I am on Carlton Way. I am, as usual in troubled waters, soft-prey for any female, even though I eat pussy like the whorehouse master and even almost love their farts, they always find a way to stamp the heart, the gut, that last feeling inside that managed to rise for one last time...they piss on me, walk away...I am doomed, friends, not because of the female but because I dream more into her than there can be." Concluding remarks include some hysterical comments on Patricia Hearst, which we surmise are entirely made up. Letters between Bukowski and Bryan are scarce, and this one is wonderful, showing the poet in truly rare form.
