First Printing. Octavo; teal cloth, with titles stamped in white, black, and beige on spine; blue topstain; 190pp. Faint tape shadows to upper and lower board edges, with faint corresponding offset to endpapers; faint adhesive swath to rear endpaper; very sharp otherwise, but still only Very Good+. Portis' first book, a comic novel about an ex-Marine who travels north to New York to deliver a car for a friend, and the crazy things he picks up on the way back (a wife, the second shortest midget in showbusiness, and a chicken who does tricks). Basis for the 1970 film starring Glen Campbell, Kim Darby and Joe Namath.
