Description

Limited issue, one of 60 numbered copies handbound by Earle Gray, signed by Paul Bowles and Gore Vidal. Octavo; ivory paper over boards, quarterbound in teal cloth with white butterfly pattern, with multi-colored titling and Moroccan design on front panel; 417pp, [1] colophon. A Fine copy in the lightly rubbed, original acetate dustjacket. This copy bears a presentation inscription to poet Susannah Risley opposite the title page: "With all good wishes to Susannah Risley from John and Barbara Martin. 8/13/79." The inscription is in both John and Barbara Martin's handwriting, in the center of which they have pasted a decorative Moroccan postage stamp. The most comprehensive collection of Bowles' short fiction in its most limited state. While we have seen several copies of this edition over the years, this is the first copy we've seen or handled with a contemporary presentation inscription by the publisher's.
