First Printing, earliest state of the text, with clear, unbattered type on pages 38, 90, and 248. Octavo; dark green textured cloth, with titling stamped in gilt on the spine and in blind on the front panel; 267pp. A little dusting at the top edge of text, with some trivial offset to pastedowns and endpapers, else a fresh, Fine copy with vibrant gilt at the spine. The unclipped dustjacket is the earliest state, with a full set of unbattered lips on the woman's face. Some very shallow chipping at the base of the spine and cornertips, with a small triangular chip at the upper right corner of the spine (not affecting title) and two areas of archival reinforcement along the front spine fold on verso; a presentable, Very Good example. Faint rubber hand-stamped date of MAR 1, 1926 just above the publisher's name at the base of the spine, possibly indicating a copy sent out for review (the book was formally published on February 26, 1926).
