BORDER - VOL. 1, NO. 2 (APRIL, 1965)

Fort Smith: Border Press, 1965. First Edition. Scarce second issue of this short-lived poetry magazine published by Wayne Philpot's Border Press, containing the first appearance of Bukowski's poem "I Keep Wanting To Cry About Everything But I Can't Get Started". He also contributed the cover illustration titled "Sunday Afternoon in Heaven". Philpot was quite taken with the quality of Bukowski's drawings, and in addition to using one to grace the first two covers of Border, he asked for several more with the intention of producing a limited edition book featuring his artwork. The projected title was Atomic Scribblings from a Maniac Age, and while it was promoted and advertised, Philpot ultimately vanished with the drawings without a word. Uncommon. Dorbin C267. Item #961

Quarto (29cm); mimeographed sheets, printed recto and verso and stapled into illustrated wrappers; [65]pp. Light wear and toning to wrapper extremities, creasing along the lower front wrapper, with faint foxing to top edge of text and beginning oxidation to staples; Very Good+.
