Reprint. Near Fine in a bright, Near Fine dustjacket. Bound in black silk finish cloth stamped in blue and yellow. Contemporary owners name on front endpaper, minute wear to one lower corner tip, and with the yellow topstain slightly dusty. The jacket is a bright, attractive example with just a touch of rubbing at the base of the spine panel and a few short, closed tears along the lower edge of the rear panel. Interestingly, Langston Hughes wrote the songs and snatches of blues tunes sung by characters in this book especially for this novel, his contributions spread out over some 17 pages. A decorative copy of Van Vechten's highly controversial novel of the Harlem Renaissance.
