TO THE DEVIL - A DAUGHTER
London: Hutchinson & Co., 1953. First Edition. "Satanist Canon Copley-Syle attempts to create an army of homunculi to war against the free world. The first step in the plan is to animate his prototype creature with the soul of the heroine, Christina, who was pledged to Satan at birth by her father. A small group of friends, led by Intelligence chief "Conky Bill" Verney, fight to save Christina and disrupt the unholy satanic-communistic alliance. The politics are absurd, but the action is lively and the villain is one of Wheatley's best" (Barron, Horror Literature 4-323). Basis for the 1976 Peter Sykes film adaptation, starring Christopher Lee, Richard Widmark, Honor Blackman, and Natassja Kinski. Item #6988
