This edition pays typographic tribute to two earlier editions of Milton's epic poem: the second edition of 1674, when the text was divided into twelve books rather than ten, and the second Baskerville edition of 1759. Also included is the short booklet Harmonious Numbers Though in Shadiest Cover Hid, the text of a talk given by Shawcross at the Arion Press on January 29, 2003, during a celebration for the publication of Paradise Lost.
