The Human Be-In, held on January 14, 1967 at San Francisco's Golden Gate Park Polo Fields, was a signal moment in the American counterculture, and a prelude to the Summer of Love. Some 20-30,000 people showed up for the event, which featured speakers, poetry readings, and live music. Timothy Leary was among the notable speakers, in his first San Francisco appearance, along with Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Gary Snyder, Lenore Kandel, Richard Alpert, Michael McClure, Dick Gregory, and others.
