A sharp copy of Cheever's first book, a collection of 30 short stories written between 1930-1942, with several of them previously published in the pages of Collier's, The New Yorker, Story Magazine, Yale Review, and Harper's Bazaar. While the book was critically well-received, it was a poor seller. Cheever (and later, his family) was persistently resistant to allowing the stories here to be included in subsequent collections of his work. Item #6181
