The Bluest Eye contains an eight-page afterword by Morrison written specifically for this edition: "With very few exceptions, the initial publication of The Bluest Eye was like Pecola's life: dismissed, trivialized, mis-read. And it has taken twenty-five years to gain for her the respectful publication this edition is" (p.216). Uncommon signed. Item #5072

Six octavo volumes (21.75cm); gray cloth, blocked and titled in black and silver on spines, with letter 'M' embossed to front covers; publisher's decorative cardboard slipcase; [viii],[10]-216; [xii],[3]-174; [x],[4]-337; [x],[4]-306; [x],[4]-323; [x],[4]-229pp. Inscribed by the author on the title page of The Bluest Eye: "For James and Zarina / Regards / Toni Morrison." Some pinpoint wear to lettering, upper corners gently bumped on several volumes, else Near Fine. Slipcase shows some light external wear, with gentle sunning to back side; Near Fine.
