New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1930. First Edition. Debut novel by Falkner (1900-1977), a New York newspaper man, centered around the murder of a Broadway actress. "In the shadowed quiet of West End Avenue, around the corner from Broadway, a hand with a knife reached the throat of a gay young actress. Downstairs in the salon, rich with the gauds and treasures of eighteenth century Paris, were the remains of a party – empty glasses, overflowing ash trays. Upstairs a body on the floor.
