New York: Farrar, Straus & Cudahy, 1960. First Edition. Item #204
First Printing. Near Fine in a Near Fine, unclipped dustjacket, with the original price of $3.95 intact. The book is a sharp, clean example, with a sharp mustard yellow topstain and clean boards. Textblock is clean with exception to a few very faint, scattered stains at the base. The jacket is a bright, lovely example with a bit of toning to the flap edges, some mild toning to the rear panel, and three small brown stains near the upper right corner of the front panel. Here, Merton discusses the relation of the person to the social organization, discussing topics like Christianity and Totalitarianism, the Philosophy of Solitude, and the Power and Meaning of Love. An very attractive example.
