New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1943. First Edition. A superb example of this science fiction highspot, originally serialized in the pages of Black Mask the previous year. The novel is centered on a scientist who preserves an evil millionaire's brain after his sudden death, only to find the brain slowly bending him towards its will. Basis for three notable adaptations - first as 'The Lady and the Monster' in 1944, the 1953 Felix Feist film of the same name, starring Lew Ayres, Gene Evans and Nancy Reagan, and the lesser-known 1962 film 'The Brain,' directed by Freddie Francis.
