FEAR AND LOATHING ON THE CAMPAIGN TRAIL '72 - SIGNED BY RALPH STEADMAN AND GEORGE S. MCGOVERN

San Francisco: Straight Arrow Books, 1973. First Edition. McGovern ran against, and lost to, Richard Nixon (an arch-nemesis of Thompson's), and Thompson was one of the few journalists who stuck with McGovern throughout his campaign, resulting in a lifelong friendship. While Thompson is almost universally revered for his book Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Campaign Trail '72 remains one of the best pieces of political writing written during the 20th century. A superior copy of book which is almost always found well-worn, signed by both the subject and illustrator. Item #90

First Printing. Octavo (21.5cm); full black cloth, with titles stamped in white on spine, and a skull stamped in blind to front cover; dustjacket; [14],15-506,[6]pp; illus. Decorative bookplate illustrated and signed by Steadman mounted to front endpaper, and signed by former Presidential candidate George S. McGovern on the half-title page.
