QUIET DAYS IN CLICHY. Henry Miller, Brassaï, text, photographs.

QUIET DAYS IN CLICHY

Paris: The Olympia Press, 1956. First Edition. Superlative copy of Miller's novella based on his bohemian lifestyle in 1930's Paris. The text was complimented by Brassaï's ethereal photographs, which were allegedly to be used for the Obelisk Press edition of Tropic of Cancer, but ended up being left out. Basis for the 1970 film Stille dage i Clichy by Danish director Jens Jørgen Thorsen, starring Paul Valjean, Wayne Rodda, and Ulla Koppel. Shifreen & Jackson A100a. Item #4405

First Printing. Small octavo (17.5cm); original unprinted white card wrappers; publisher's stiff card dustjacket, printed in yellow, gray, and black; [6],7-171,[3]pp, plus 36 plates of matt-finish photographs by Brassaï. Tiny ownership label of Black Sparrow Press publisher John K. Martin at lower edge of inner rear wrapper. A handful of pinpoint rubbed spots, hint of wear to upper right corner of crown, but I'm splitting hairs here - fresh, Fine, rich in color, and free from toning.

Price: $3,500.00
